CyberMentor is an online platform for Canadian girls in Alberta. The aim of this platform is to encourage girls into STEM fields by exposing them to female role models. Role models or mentors go through background check to provide a safe secure environment for girls. As an online program, all communication between girls and their mentors occurs via a password-protected, secure account. All conversations are recorded as an additional level of safety. No personal contact information is shared.Girls need to have their parents’ consent with registration.
The matching process is based on expertise, common interests, hobbies, and preferences. Girls would have to take a fun quiz during registration to discover which careers may be right for them. This program inspired e-mentoring in Germany and another CyberMentor was developed to encourage girls into MINT (Math, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Technology)
